The National Park System of the United States comprises 384 areas covering more than 83 million acres in 49 States, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Saipan, and the Virgin Islands. The National Park System web site provides detailed information on each of these areas to help you prepare your vacation plans. Some of the travel and vacation planning information provided that varies from park to park includes: hours of operation, holiday schedules, tour information, trip planning advice, spectacular photos, calendar of events, historical facts, park facilities, camping and lodging information, links to more information about a particular area, and usually a section just for kids called the Junior Ranger Program.
